Matthew C. Whitehead
Mr. Whitehead joined the Geographic Information Science and Technology Group in June of 2009 as a post bachelors research associate after graduating from UNC-CH. While at UNC-CH, Mr. Whitehead worked with the Town of Highlands, NC and the Highlands Biological Station. He conducted an in depth watershed analysis to create a new perennial streams map for the Town of Highlands and worked with a team from Highlands Biological Station studying canopy gap analysis and the effects of forest composition do to the Hemlock lose. Mr. Whitehead completed his Professional Science Masters in Geospatial Information Science and Technology through NCSU. His work with NCSU was primarily focused on business management in science. He worked with WakeMed to establish a community health asset database and developed an in house web mapping application to promote and assist with policy and environmental change initiatives to benefit the wellbeing of Wake County residents. Upon completion of his MGIST, Mr. Whitehead took a post masters research associate position with the GIST group and subsequently became a staff member in November of 2014.
