Philip Nugent

Research Scientist

Mr. Nugent joined the Geographic Information Science and Technology group in the summer of 2009. His primary role within the group currently is development support for geospatial applications and his primary focus in that capacity is as a contributing developer to the Bioenergy Knowledge Discovery Framework. Prior to joining the GIST group, Mr. Nugent worked for MarketLinx Inc. and Courthouse Retrieval Systems, Inc. In both positions, Mr. Nugent led efforts to add geospatial capabilities to real estate property information systems, including integrating open source, web-based mapping applications. Before working in private industry, Mr. Nugent was employed by the University of Tennessee Center for Transportation Research where he participated and in some case led projects for creating spatial datasets for such organizations as the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mr. Nugent’s core proficiencies include geospatial applications development and dataset creation, transportation systems analysis, and web-based GIS technologies. In developing this expertise, Mr. Nugent established a diverse set of technical skills including web and desktop application development in several programming languages and spatial database development.
