Rajasekar Karthik

Research Scientist

Mr. Karthik joined the Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIST) group at ORNL in June 2011. He is currently one of the software developers for the BioEnergy Knowledge Discovery Framework (KDF), Settlement Mapping Tool (SMTOOL) and Strategic Materials Analysis and Reporting Topography (SMART) projects. Prior to becoming a full staff member of the GIST group, Mr. Karthik held a post-masters position within the same group and a research application developer at Purdue University specializing in building cyber-infrastructure and web software for scientific research, education and collaboration. His areas of expertise include proficiency with a vast array of programming languages, concepts and technologies especially web-based software design and development, database programming, full life-cycle software development process, and search engine technologies. His current research interest areas are (1) Scalable and High-Performance architectures; (2) Geographic Information Systems (GIS); (3) Emerging technologies such as Node.js, HTML5, and NoSQL; and (4) Cloud computing.
